We acquired the car in 2001 through Bill Giles Chevrolet in Yerington, Nevada. Bill picked up the car in Washington State from Togo Motors. Bill called me and said “I just bought Gloria’s Birthday Present”, it’s a long story.  Anyway, we picked up the car from Bill a few days later. John Rak, BC Corvettes, was the Original owner. John never took delivery of the car due to medical reasons. The odometer had only 37 miles on it. John left a note in the owners manual giving his Email address contact if the buyer wanted to know more about this Corvette. I contacted John and we have remained in contact to this date, he has since acquired a 2002 and a 2003 ZO6.

Canadian Z06’s are pretty much the same as the American ones. They do get the 300 KPH speedometer (E/M switchable), and the engine block heaters are standard on all Corvettes sold in Canada. I have been told there are about 100 differences in the Canadian export cars. The wiring harness is different. For example, at dusk, we have no control over our headlights, they automatically pop up due to regulations up there. Canada was also first to implement mandatory DRL's and the third braking light. Canadian Packages on Corvettes are also different. Canadian Corvettes don't have a 1SC Package, theirs only goes to 1SB as many more options are standard here. On the Z06, in Canada, there are only three (3) options and not the five (5) they have in the US. Other than the Millennium Yellow Color (RPO 79U), the Mirrors/Memory Package (RPO AAB) and Body Side Moldings (RPO 84) are the only options to choose from.

The 2001 production year produced 1115 Corvettes for Canada. Of these 214 were coupes, 617 were convertibles, and only 284 were Z06's. Only sixty five (65) Canadian ZO6’s were painted Quicksilver Metallic. White is the rarest color, only twelve (12) Canadian Z06's were painted white.

We have enjoyed the ZO6 from day one, I still pinch myself each time I drive the car and thank Bill to this day for getting the ZO6 for us (Gloria). We have shown the car in WSCC events in the Bay Area and both Gloria and I autocrossed the ZO6 for the last two years. The car has averaged better than 98.9 in car shows. Gloria finished in fourth place in WSCC autocross class AAW and I finished in second place in AA autocross classes in 2002.  We are in first place for car show in 2003 and in the top five for autocross in 2003. We have also attended the last three Bay Area Team ZR-I Iron Ass events and look forward to other road events with the Team.

Best part about the ZO6 is the quality of the vehicle and the trouble free operation we have experienced over the last two years. I have every record and expenditure for the ZO6. Outside of normal maintenance the car has been outstanding. GM fulfilled their ZO6 mission in the creation of a very responsive and most agile production Corvette ever built.
